Owen's school does a Transportation Parade each year, where the kids create a transportation vehicle out of cardboard. It's a pretty big deal to a lot of the kids, and by kids, I mean their overachieving parents. At the transportation parade, we saw creations that could only have been made by professional engineers! An ice-cream truck that had music playing and flashing lights (and the mom was passing out homemade ice cream sandwiches along the parade route).... a space shuttle attached to a kid in an astronaut costume.... a hot air balloon floating above a kid in a wicker basket. I overhead some parents saying that they've been working on their transportation parade vehicle since last year! Oh my. We started the day before it was due, and spent about three hours on it. :-)
One guess what Owen wanted to create????
Yep -
A fishing boat. Just like Daddy.
We started by taping together cardboard boxes.
Added some paint
Created some fishing rods, made a steering wheel and slapped on some stickers
And, ended up with a pretty fun little boat! We attached rope to his lifejacket so that he could "wear" the boat.
All the parents are there taking pictures.
And the children from other grades are lining the route. The little boy in front of Owen is Gavin, and he's one of Owen's best friends at school.
Look at Owen very closely. Can you see what he's doing? And yes, he ate it.
The kids were clapping and cheering, and Owen loved the attention!
