This past Sunday - July 31, 2011 - we celebrated the third birthday of our firstborn son, and the Baptism of our second son. It was a special, special day!
It was special because as Benjamin's parents, in front of God, our family, and our friends, we accepted the responsibility of raising Benjamin in the Catholic faith and reaffirmed our commitment to live the life of Jesus Christ.
It was special because Benjamin became a part of the Catholic church and joined the Most Blessed Sacrament parish family.
It was special because Benjamin was baptised with the love and support of his extended family all around him.
It was special because of his godparents - two Christians whom love Jesus, love the Catholic faith, and most importantly, love Benjamin.
We asked Catherine to be Benjamin's godmother, and she happily agreed. Catherine holds a special place in my spiritual journey - I was first exposed to the Catholic Church when I met her nearly 20 years ago. A "cradle Catholic", Catherine models the faith. She accepts and loves others without judgement. We know that she will love and guide Benjamin (and Owen) throughout his life. We trust her, love her and value her role in our family.
Before Benjamin was even born, we knew we wanted to ask Noah to be our child's godfather. Although only 12 years old, Noah loves God and the Catholic church with all of his heart. We know he will take the responsibility of being a godparent very seriously, and we are very eager to watch Benjamin's relationship with him develop.
And, the day was extra special because of our family and friends present:

The day was also special because it was Owen's Birthday!!!!!
After the baptism, we went back to our house for a fun birthday party for our big boy! It was catered by Paula Deen's restaurant, The Lady and Sons, so after stuffing ourselves full of fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, green beans and banana pudding, it was party time!
We borrowed this extra cool water slide from our neighbors. It was only 99 degrees outside. All of the kids put on their swim suits and got crazy in the water. Owen absolutely loved it. He had been counting down the days until his birthday just so that he could get on it.
Owen specifically asked for a "shark" birthday cake, and after visiting a few bakeries, we found an awesome one for him. It ended up being quite difficult getting Owen off the water slide so that he could blow out his candles!
Just like we did with Owen, we were able to get a picture of four generations with Benjamin.
